POLITICS: Seated at the front

Edham Nureddin (or "Ed" for short) Husic, the Federal Labor member for the Western Sydney seat of Chifley, has moved to the front bench today. He is now the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister and for broadband.

It is a massive milestone for Husic and the nation. Husic is of Bosnian Muslim heritage.

Husic's political career has suffered some setbacks along the way. His road to Federal Parliament was rocky thanks to prejudice from certain pundits and political operatives who distributed a fake election brochure when he ran in the 2004 election in the seat of Greenway where he grew up.

You can read Husic's thoughts on the 2004 election and the broader issue of Muslims in politics here.
