It is clear I must dig deeper to get to the truth.
Here is the link to my second blog entry about Ayaan Hirsi Ali. http://mitzvahmom.podbean.com/2007/09/09/anniversary-of-911/

I'll continue researching and then do another update after I've had the chance to become more informed.

ElizabethAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700035.post-5452045038665916142007-08-26T21:25:00.000+10:002007-08-26T21:25:00.000+10:00Irfan, Thank you for your comment. When I started t...Irfan, Thank you for your comment.

When I started the post I was mainly interested in the libertarian sentiments expressed by Geert Wilders, which I found when I was researching were mainly old statements, while the more recent ones have tended to concentrate on Islam.

I have in the past repeatedly made the point that it is unhelpful to lump all Islamic people together with the extremist elements, many live together with us quite peacefully. This appears to be the tactic of some of the right. Making pariahs of them will push the youth towards those who would use them as cannon fodder for their extremist ideals.Jim Fryarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15780237902858889143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700035.post-76324298598738662482007-08-13T04:09:00.000+10:002007-08-13T04:09:00.000+10:00Thank you for the interesting comments on both of ...Thank you for the interesting comments on both of these writers. I have not read books by either of these women. In Hirsi Ali's case it was a conscious decision, because I feel it is dangerous to read such an indictment without the necessary knowledge to fairly evaluate her points. I did hear Hirsi Ali interviewed on National Public Radio in the US and was somewhat taken aback (as was the host, I believe) when she said that, in the US, the Democratic party is very close to Communism. What passes for "far left" in the US is just a tad left of center, and might even be considered the centrist party in some European countries. While there may be rash accusations from the far right of the Republican party, anyone with an understanding of history and political science knows that the Democratic party doesn't even come close to true Communism or even Socialism. There is not even a consensus on socialized medicine.

That baseless analogy did cause me to question how much I should accept strictly on her say-so.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
